Weekly Update

Week 8 Update

Our Learning

LITERACY: In Reading Workshop we continued our routines for Read to Buddy.  Students learned how to sit EEKK, how to take turns reading (I read, you read), how to read together (choral reading), how to coach their partners through tricky parts, and how to talk to their partners about their books.   In Writing Workshop we continued our launching unit.  Students put their stories into words by saying words slowly and writing the sounds they hear, even if it’s just one letter.  Students also added a new writing tool to their folders – their very own ABC chart!

MATH:  This week we worked with numbers 8-10.  In addition to writing numerals, students counted, represented numbers in different ways, decomposed numbers, answered how many questions, and acted out story problems.  Look for a counting/writing numbers assessment in your child’s folder next week!

SCIENCE:  This week we asked, “What is science?”  and “What do scientists do?” We read about different types of scientists and are beginning to notice the tools they use, what they wear, how they gather information and share with others, and how they help the world around us.
