LITERACY: In Reading Workshop we learned how to read with an expert voice (nonfiction books) and a storytelling voice (fiction books). Students also learned to use connecting words such as, “AND THEN…” as they flip a page and continue telling the story. We also began our routines for Read to Buddy. Students learned how to get themselves ready to read by finding their buddy and sitting EEKK. In Writing Workshop we began our launching unit. Students learned how to use new writing tools, how to plan, sketch, and label their stories, and how to keep working (“When I’m done…I’ve just begun!”). Your kiddos are making great progress with letter ID and sounds – keep up the practice at home! 🙂
MATH: This week we worked with numbers 4-9. In addition to writing numerals, students counted, represented numbers in different ways, decomposed numbers, and answered how many questions.
SOCIAL STUDIES: This week we began our study of past, present, and future. We explored these concepts with mentor text read alouds and compared objects from the past and present. On Thursday your child brought home a timeline project template. Please send your child’s timeline back to school by Monday, October 28th.
