LITERACY: In Reading Workshop we practiced the Chunky Monkey reading strategy. Instead of stretching out each individual letter, students learned to look for parts they know. These “parts” may include short words (and, in, at) digraphs (sh, ch, th) blends (fl, st, br), or other word parts (ing, ed) . In Writing Workshop we wrapped up our unit on Opinion Letters. Next week students will bring home their writing from this unit.
MATH: This week we began our unit on Analyzing, Comparing, and Composing Shapes. Students built flat shapes with varying side lengths (triangles of different sizes are still triangles as long as they are closed shapes with three straight sides and three corners), built solid shapes, and took apart solid shapes to see the shapes of their flat faces.
SOCIAL STUDIES: In these last few weeks we’ve learned about maps and globes. Students have also learned about wants and needs, how people earn money, and the flow of working a job, making money, and buying wants and needs.
