Weekly Update

Week 14 Update

Our Learning

LITERACY:  In Reading Workshop we will continue our unit on Reading Superpowers.  Later last week we practiced using the Eagle Eye strategy to give us picture power.  When faced with a tricky words, students know that they can look at the picture for clues.  This week we will discover Lips the Fish to give us sound power.  In this strategy students use the beginning sound of the tricky word to solve.  In Writing Workshop we will continue our unit on Labeling and Listing.  Students will plan their scientific writing across several pages.  We will continue to practice building our snap words in tactile stations with sand, play doh, wikki stix, stamps, and whiteboards.

MATH:  This week we will wrap up our unit on Geometry and begin our study of Measurement.  Students will explore comparing objects of different length and will use language such as longer than and shorter than.  You can help your child practice at home by comparing objects to see which has more/less of an attribute, such as length or weight.  For example, the pan is heavier than the spoon, or the crayon is shorter than the scissors.
